Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) is located on the surface of capillary endothelial cells in extrahepatic tissues. It mainly catalyzes the hydrolysis of triglycerides in plasma chylomicrons (CM) and very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL), and plays an important role in the degradation of CM and VLDL.
