It acts as an endopeptidase, specifically cleaving the carboxyl-terminal peptide bonds of tyrosine and phenylalanine in protein polypeptide chains. It selectively hydrolyzes carboxyl-terminal aromatic amino acids (tyrosine, tryptophan, leucine) or large-volume hydrophobic residues with side chains such as methionine.
